In short: to reach Google's local results in Kyiv you need a verified Google Business Profile, identical company data everywhere (name, address, phone), real reviews, site pages for local queries and LocalBusiness markup. Google weighs relevance, distance and prominence, so you must work on all three.

What is local SEO?

Local SEO promotes a business for queries where someone is looking for a service or product nearby: "dentist Kyiv Obolon", "laptop repair near metro", "SEO agency Kyiv". For such queries Google often shows a map block (the local pack) with business cards showing rating, hours and a call button. Getting into that block can bring more calls and directions than ordinary blue links.

Who needs local SEO?

  • Businesses with a physical address: cafes, salons, service centres, clinics, shops, offices that receive clients.
  • Companies that travel to the customer: tradespeople, delivery, repair, cleaning (service-area businesses).
  • Multi-branch companies: each location needs its own profile and page.

If you work only online and don't receive clients, the local pack is probably not available to you. Then regular SEO and brand mentions matter more.

What does local ranking depend on?

Google names three main factors:

Factor What it means How to influence it
Relevance How well the profile matches the query Right categories, description, services, site content
Distance How far the business is from the searcher Accurate address or service area
Prominence How well known and trusted the business is Reviews, mentions, links, site quality

You can't change distance, but you can improve relevance and prominence.

Step 1. Create and verify Google Business Profile

  1. Create a profile in Google Business Profile and enter the company name.
  2. Choose the type: with an address for visitors, or a service area.
  3. Enter the exact address, phone and website.
  4. Complete verification using the method Google offers (code, call, video and others depending on the case).
  5. Don't create duplicate profiles for one location.

Without verification the profile won't get full visibility.

Step 2. Fill in the profile

  • Name: only the real business name, without adding keywords or districts. Artificially extending the name violates Google's rules and can lead to suspension.
  • Primary category: the most accurate available, because it strongly affects relevance. Add secondary categories as needed.
  • Address and service area: the address must match your site and documents. For businesses that don't receive clients, hide the address and set a service area.
  • Opening hours: current, including holiday changes.
  • Services and products: describe them in the relevant profile sections.
  • Description: factual, without advertising or discount pitches that break the rules.
  • Photos and video: real photos of the entrance, interior, team and work.
  • Links: your website and a booking page or contact form. Add UTM parameters to see profile visitors in GA4.

Step 3. Reviews

Reviews affect both trust and visibility. Rules:

  • ask real customers for reviews after the service: by message, QR code or link;
  • reply to every review, including negative ones, calmly and to the point;
  • don't buy or write fake reviews;
  • don't offer rewards for reviews;
  • don't filter whom you ask: asking only happy customers is against the rules;
  • don't post staff reviews of your own business.

Fake or selective reviews can be removed and the profile restricted.

Step 4. Local pages on the website

The site must confirm what the profile says.

  • Contacts page: address, phone, hours, map, directions, photos.
  • Service pages: one page per service, mentioning the city and districts where natural.
  • Branch pages: a separate page per location with unique content, not a copy with a different address.
  • Titles and descriptions: include the service and city, without stuffing.
  • Reviews and cases: genuine, with names or examples of work.

Step 5. LocalBusiness markup

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "LocalBusiness",
  "name": "Company name",
  "url": "https://example.com/",
  "telephone": "+380XXXXXXXXX",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "1 Example St.",
    "addressLocality": "Kyiv",
    "addressCountry": "UA"
  },
  "openingHoursSpecification": [{
    "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
    "dayOfWeek": ["Monday","Tuesday","Wednesday","Thursday","Friday"],
    "opens": "09:00",
    "closes": "18:00"
  }]
}

Insert real data. Markup data must match the site and the profile. For better precision use a more specific LocalBusiness subtype (for example for a clinic or restaurant).

Step 6. Data consistency and mentions

Search engines compare company data across sources. Mismatches in name, address or phone (NAP) reduce trust.

  • Write the name, address and phone identically in the profile, on the site, in social networks and directories.
  • Register in relevant local and industry directories.
  • Look for mentions in local media, partner sites and professional communities.
  • Remove or merge duplicate profiles.

How to measure results

  • Profile performance shows views, calls, direction requests, website clicks and the queries that found you.
  • GA4 with UTM tags shows visits from the profile and leads from them.
  • Call tracking: events for phone-link clicks on the site (see our article on GA4 and Tag Manager).
  • Local rankings: check from different points around the city, because they depend on the user's location.

Common mistakes

  • Adding keywords to the profile name.
  • Virtual offices and addresses where the business doesn't operate.
  • Duplicate profiles and different data in different sources.
  • The wrong primary category.
  • Reviews only from acquaintances, or purchased ones.
  • One page copied for every district with only the name swapped.
  • Ignoring review replies.
  • Outdated hours and contacts.

FAQ

How long until you appear in local results?

It depends on niche and competition. A profile can appear fairly quickly after verification, but stable rankings need reviews, content and trust, meaning weeks or months.

Can you promote several Kyiv districts with one office?

A profile is tied to an address or service area. For other districts build quality pages on the site rather than fake addresses.

Is a website required for Google Business Profile?

You can run a profile without a site, but a site strengthens trust and gives customers somewhere to go. It is desirable for SEO.

What should you do about a negative review?

Reply calmly, acknowledge the issue and offer a solution. A review can be removed only if it violates Google's policies.

Does an online store need local SEO?

If it has a pickup point or showroom, yes. For a purely online store, Google Shopping and regular SEO matter more.
